Can Read Phonics
Does anyone have a good suggestion to help my 8 year old nephew learn to read and write?
I recently got custody of my two nephews. One is 9 and the other is 8. I have just learned that my 8 year old nephew cannot read or write words yet. I cannot afford Hooked on Phonics or a tutoring program. Is there a free site or free literature that I can obtain to help me help him learn?
Is he attending public school? There should be school programs and teachers that can be assisting him at no charge. They may also be aware of other programs that could help you.
The best thing you could do for him is practice with him, and be consistent. When my daughters were younger I used learning books from Wal-Mart. They range from preschool age and up. They are wonderful and very inexpensive, $5-$8 each.
