How to repair Windows Vista registry?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 that I bought 3 years back running on Windows Vista Home Basic SP2. Recently, my BIOS wouldn't show up, and I cannot boot into Vista normally. I can only boot into the recovery console and safe mode. After activating startup repair, I found out that my registry was corrupted, but startup repair cannot repair the registry.
If your OS is completely hosed due to a corrupt registry it may be better to just reinstall Windows, rather than spending hours of your time trying to track down and fix the hundreds of problems you may potentially have.
Can you access the Windows repair installation option? If you can, do just that -- Windows will reinstall, but your files will still remain.
