Html Less Than
I have several html questions?
First, does it cost anything to add www. at the beginning or .com at the end?
Second, when I put in www.mywebsite.com, it turns up as an MS-DOS document or I just can't find it when I look for it on the actual internet?
These might sound like dumb questions to the experienced, but I've only been working with html for less than a week and I need help!
Normally you build the site on your C: drive. The home page is usually called index.html or index.htm.
Then you register a domain name, like tedpack.org, and rent space from a hosting company. Once you pay them, you upload your local copy to their server. They add the www part, so that
http://www.tedpack.org
is there for the world to see.
Most hosting companies will register your domain for you. I pay $60 (US) a year for domain registration and 30 MB of space on my host. GoDaddy.com is the largest cheapest host company I know of. If you are doing a site for a non-profit, a local ISP may host it for you for free.
There are numerous sites than let you biuld a web page or six for free; GeoCities used to be the most popular, but it is going away.
Some ISPs give you 5 MB as part of your monthly package, so your address would be
http://www.myisp.com/members/ajay
