Can I use one data card to connect two laptops to the internet?

I'm just beginning to learn about wireless networks and routers and such. I'm currently on dialup and am in a very rural area, so the only way to get truly high-speed internet would be through a data card. However, I'd like to buy just one and use it to connect both my and my husband's laptops if that is possible. Is it? And if it is, how do I go about it?
I found this ...D-Link 3G Mobile Router DIR-451 ... on tigerdirect.com, but I can't tell if it will be compatible with the new AT&T cards. I was looking at getting the Mercury from AT&T. The cards that Tigerdirect shows being compatible with this router are all discontinued, but they are AT&T. Any input on this? Is this a good router to go with? Thanks.
And I found the Cradlepoint CTR500 EVDO Router on 3gstore.com when I clicked on their USBconnect Mercury link, so it looks like that is compatible, though I can't seem to confirm it in the specs. Maybe I'm overlooking something. Anyhow, is this a good one?

There are a couple of ways to do this, but the easiest way is to get a mobile pcmcia connect card from one of your local cell phone companies and plug it into a 3G router. Now if your two notebooks have wifi adapters you can connect to the router wirelessly and share your internet connection.
