Pro Solar System
Is Jupiter the answer if we want to survive on other Plannets in our lifetime?
Jupiter is larger than all the other planets in our solar system combined, it gives off three times the heat that it gets from the sun; it is basically an unexploaded sun... should we try to set it ablaze as to cause it to function like the sun and heat up the other plannets and satelites (moons of other planets) in the outer region of our solar system? that way Saturn, neptune, uranius, pluto and their satelites would be much warmer and closer to tempretures enjoyed here on earth, creating another easily habitable planet in our solar system that can be visited within a lifetime. This is the Pro however the con is that this may cause some unthought of chain reaction that may affect us here.... what do you think?
It's a nice idea but turning planets into stars is a little out of our technical ability. Even if it were possible, here are the problems:
- It would probably be too hot for the moons of Jupiter to be inhabitable as they are very close to Jupiter in astronomical measures. (This would be the best hope however.)
- It would only warm the outer planets when Jupiter is close to them. For example, if Saturn is on the far side of the sun, a Jupiter star would have little or no effect on Saturn.
- The outer planets are all gas giants so there is no practical way to live on them.
Mars is still the best bet for colonization. With a good power source and lots of money, it should be possible.
Planets are just now being found in other solar systems - maybe one day it will be possible to visit one of these.
