Speed Reading...?
I am planning on attending law school. One of my concerns is that I am naturally a very slow reader (English is also not my first language). It always bothered me but I dealt with in. I know there will be a great deal of material that I will have to read in law school and I want to learn some "speed reading technique". Has anyone tried it? What are the best book, programs, or/and classes that I can take to learn?? Also if I learn to speed read, will I be able to take in everything I am reading or will in just go "in one ear, come out the other"?
I cant give you books or courses, but I can help you. First of all, before you start, breathe. Close your eyes and breathe for about 1 min and try to clear your mind. Throw your thoughts away. When you have done this, skim the page of your book real fast (3-5sec) and just notice some important words. Now is the actual reading part. In your mind, you probably pronounce the word. Dont. Your mind will process what you read without pronouncing it in your head. Just read the BOTTOM HALF of the word and for the most part skim. Your brain will interpret with only the half of the word and without you pronouncing it. This is what most people do wrong. Just by doing this, you should add about 10 lines per minute if you are a slow reader naturally, or about 25 lines per minute if you are a naturally fast reader. It works for me.
